The National Danish-American Genealogical Society (NDAGS) was founded in 1982. We are a branch of the Minnesota Genealogical Society and are closely affiliated with the Danish-American Cultural Center of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota.

The purpose of the group is to:

  • Promote interest and research in family history.
  • Exchange ideas and information related to genealogical research and methodology.
  • Provide instruction on topics of interest to members.
  • Encourage interest in Danish ancestry and heritage.
  • Provide an organization that people interested in Danish genealogy and family history may join no matter where they live.
  • Encourage research and writing of family, emigration, immigration and settlement histories.



Meetings

The National Danish Amerian Genealogical Society meets every 4th Monday of the month, except for the months of August and December.

Meeting time is 7:00 p.m. Central Time

Meeting programs cover Danish immigration, use of genealogy resources, photography, genealogy resources in libraries, organization of materials, Danish history and more.

Members share their research successes and help others with their quests to find Danish relatives.

Membership

Anyone with an interest in Danish genealogy is welcome to join the National Danish American Genealogical Society. NDAGS membership dues are $20 per person and $25 per family each calendar year.

If you are interested in attending a meeting, but are not sure about joining, a donation of $2.00 per person is appreciated.

  • Admittance to all NDAGS meetings and programs.

"Searching for Your Danish Ancestors: A Guide to Danish Genealogical Research in the United States and Denmark".

This publication was written by members of the National Danish American Genealogical Society and is available for $15 per copy (this includes postage and handling in the U.S.)

The publication is designed for both beginning and more experienced Danish researchers. Included are sections on Danish-American Lutheran Churches, census records, citizenship papers, passenger lists, military records, microfilmed Danish records and more United States resources.

Danish resources include: Danish church records, Danish military levying rolls, genealogically significant dates in Danish history, methods for sending money to Denmark for research and more.
